CRUYFF PREDICTS MORE AWARDS

Former Barcelona manager and player Johan Cruyff has said that Lionel Messi will be winning more Ballon d’Or awards in the future. Lionel Messi, who is regarded as the greatest player currently in the world, won the third Ballon d’Or title of his career ahead of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and his own Barcelona teammate Xavi.

He won almost 50 percentage of the votes at the ceremony held in ZA?rich, Switzerland. After winning the title, Johan Cruyff has said that it is not surprising that Lionel Messi has won it for the third time in his career and that one should also not be surprised if he wins many more in the future.

Johan Cruyff is one of the few players to have won the prestigious Ballon d’Or award three times. He, however, has said that there is no surprise in the fact that Lionel Messi has managed to equal his achievements. Johan Cruyff is also widely regarded to be the greatest ever player for Barcelona, who also went on to manage the team as well. Currently, his philosophies dominate the club, which has been winning almost every trophy it contests in the last two or three years. Naturally, it has led to comparisons with the team he managed to build during his managerial career at the camp Nou.

a?He has already won two and he will be the player with the most Ballons d’Or in history. He does not have the support of players like [Andres] Iniesta, Xavi or Cesc [Fabregas], who make Messi be even more mind-blowing than he already is. Being the player that he is, he can still won many more. He will win five, six or seven,” Johan Cruyff told Ole after Lionel Messias triumph at this prestigious awards ceremony.

Cruyff: Barca will go for the Win

Barcelona will be taking on Real Madrid in one of the most important El Clasico’s of recent times. Real Madrid are threatening to bring an end to the hat-trick of titles Barcelona have won in Spain. They currently hold a six-point advantage over the reigning Spanish and European Champions.

Due to the way both Real Madrid and Barcelona dominate the domestic league, it is really tough to find the matches in which Real Madrid will drop six points for Barcelona too close the gap. The El Clasico’s importance comes here because it is one of the few matches that could help Barcelona to reduce the deficit.

Johan Cruyff believes that Barcelona will not be setting out for a stalemate with the two sides face this weekend. He says that Barcelona have always played in the El Clasico with a view of winning the match more than anything else. The gap between the two clubs is currently down to 3 points because Barcelona have made up an extra game over Real Madrid. Hence, they will have the psychological advantage going into those match because they can go level on points with Real Madrid should they win the match. Further, the victory becomes extremely important when you consider that Barcelona will be going out to Japan to play in the Club World Cup, which will allow Real Madrid to improve their difference even better.

“The favourite to win? I can only say that Barcelona always play to win against Madrid. We’ll see on Saturday who comes out victorious. It’s only a game and nothing more than that. A win for Madrid wouldn’t all of a sudden mean that they are now the dominant team.” The Clasico won’t be decisive. There are so many games left. Nothing that happens on Saturday will be decisive in the title race,” Cruyff was quoted as saying by AS.

Cruyff Backs Barcelona

It’s not a surprise to see Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho hit the headlines in the sports newspapers again for slagging off his main Primera Liga rivals Barcelona. It’s probably more of a surprise that coach Pep Guardiola hasn’t snapped yet, and retains his air of humility and dignity in not rising to the bait.

Thankfully, for all Barca fans, there is one person who is willing to bat for their side – step forward club hero Johan Cruyff.

Whilst Jose Mournho has been busy saying that Barcelona always have the rub of the green, the easier fixtures after Champions League matches, the home games after International breaks, and the easier teams in the Champions League Group stages, the Barca fans have been getting slowly more and more irate. But Johan says we shouldn’t listen to him.

“Honestly, no-one cares about what Mourinho says” said the Dutchman who was a sensation in his time at the Camp Nou, both as a player and a manager.

“No-one can deny that Madrid have been playing very well in the last years, but that doesn’t mean they’ll win anything! They won the most points they’ve ever won in the league last season, but even then they still lost to Barcelona! We have nothing to prove to Mourinho”

Johan Cruyff

Hendrik Johannes Cruijff, or Johan Cruyff as he is popularly known, is an attacking midfielder who is often thought to be one of the greatest football players of all-time. Apart from being well known for his playing days, Johan Cruyff is also well remembered for introducing the ‘total football’ concept in the modern-day football. He is one of the few players in the world to have lifted the famous Ballon d’Or trophy on three occasions. He is considered as a legend at both Ajax and Barcelona a two extremely huge clubs in Europe.

Johan Cruyff began his youth career with Ajax before making the professional debut for the Dutch team in the 1964 season. He went on to make 240 appearances for Ajax in just under 10 years, while he also maintained an incredible scoring record of getting nearly 200 goals from the same. FC Barcelona purchased Johan Cruyff for a fee of around US$ 20 million in 1973, which was a record fee. He soon justified the enormous price tag by continuing the quite impressive style of football for Barcelona as well.

Even though he was not as successful in terms of the goal ratio, he still managed a very healthy 48 goals from nearly 150 appearances, which is remarkable for a midfielder. In terms of the number of trophies won, his Barcelona career was not able to match the cherished moments of the Ajax career, but still Johan Cruyff won the la Liga title and the Copa del Rey with Barcelona. He decided to end his Barcelona stay in 1979 after signing for American team Los Angeles Aztecs. From then on, Johan Cruyff moved around quite a lot before returning to Ajax in 1981. He spent three more seasons in Dutch football with both Ajax and Feyenoord before eventually retiring in 1984.

He made his international debut in 1966 for the Dutch national team and retired in 1977 after making 48 appearances and scoring 33 goals.

Johan Cruyff has won eight Eredivisie with Ajax along with the three European Cups. The three European Cups came in succession a 1971, 1972, and 1973. He has also won the UEFA Super Cup and the UEFA Intertoto Cup. He managed to lift his ninth Eredivisie with Feyenoord in his final season.

Johan Cruyff returned to football, but in the form of a manager with Ajax. Even though he did not lead the team to League success, he won the KNVB Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. He then signed for Barcelona in 1988 and is probably regarded as one of the biggest reason for the change in the Barcelona philosophy. He led Barcelona to four la Liga titles, one European cup, one UEFA super cup, one UEFA cup winners’ cup, and three Supercopa de EspaAa titles.
Individually, he has been awarded the Dutch Footballer of the Year in 1967, while he also went on to be called as the European Player of the Century XX by IFFHS. He was included into the FIFA 100 list in 2004.
