CRUYFF SPOKE TO PEP

Johan Cruyff has said that Pep Guardiola decided to resign from the post of Barcelona manager because he wanted to take a break from football management.

Guardiola had stepped down as the manager of Barcelona at the end of the last season. There have been reports that Guardiola wanted to release some high profile Barcelona players, but, he wasn’t allowed to do so. That’s why, he decided to quit. But, Cruyff doesn’t think so. When he was asked why Guardiola decided to resign, he said, “I think he wanted to have a bit of break. Football management is an intense job. And, if you are the manager of a big club, the job becomes even tougher. He had got tired mentally.”

“I met him a few days ago and he told me that he would take any decision about his future after a few months.”

The Barcelona team performed brilliantly and won a number of titles under the guidance of Guardiola. But, the exit of Guardiola doesn’t seem to have affected the performance of the team. Barca is performing equally well in the ongoing season under the guidance of its new manager Tito Vilanova.

Barcelona is at the top of the La Liga points table at the moment with 25 points in 9 matches. Barca is yet to lose a match in the ongoing La Liga.

When asked about the performance of the new Barca manager, Cruyff said, “Vilanova has been a part of the team since quite a while and he has a good tuning with the players. So, he was expected to do a good job as the manager. Things are going all right for him at the moment, but, his real test will come when some key Barca players lose form.”

CRUYFF SLAGS OFF REAL

The former Barcelona manager Johan Cruyff has criticised the Real Madrid manager José Mourinho for everything to be centred about him. The former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager recently won the la Liga title with Real Madrid, thus becoming one of the most successful in the world after having won titles in Portugal, England, Italy, and Spain. However, the former Barcelona manager and the Dutch international Johan Cruyff has said that the Portuguese does things too often in order to grab attention, thus putting him in front of the team. José Mourinho will be getting his team ready for the next match against Barcelona in the Spanish Supercopa at the Camp Nou.

Since this is the first leg of the encounter, Real Madrid will be looking to adopt a more defensive approach in the match. Johan Cruyff has said that it is not about the manager when two clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid come together. Mourinho claimed himself to be the ‘Special One’ when he took over at Chelsea in 2004. The name has followed him ever since. He has also managed to live up to their reputation by winning titles like the Champions League, Italian Serie A, and others in his career since then.

“As a player he was not up to much and now he is able to do something. How do you make sense of some calling themselves ‘the only one?’ It is good to put that name on a jersey, but nothing more. I do not like that sort of behavior. He must show his worth when times are bad. We must wait to make a decision. It is not the same as being in the background with Pep Guardiola in front. That is something different,” said Johan Cruyff ahead of this much anticipated encounter.

RIJKAARD IS THE PERFECT CHOICE

The Dutch legend Johan Cruyff has said that the former Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard is the perfect man for the Dutch national team manager job. The Netherlands managed to go all the way in the 2010 FIFA World Cup final, but lost in the match to Spain. As a result, they were coming into the Euro 2012 with a lot of expectations. Players like Robin van Persie were in the prime and were also in extremely good form. However, they managed to suffered three defeats in the three group matches to exit the competition in the group stages itself.

Following the embarrassing into the tournament, the Dutch manager Bert van Marwijk offered his resignation from the post. The Dutch football Association are currently looking at the various managers to appoint as the replacement. The former Dutch international Johan Cruyff has said that the football Association need not look beyond the former Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard, who is probably the perfect man to lead the nation to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Some of the senior members of the squad like Robin van Persie will be passed their prime during this World Cup. However, Johan Cruyff believes that Rijkaard can handle the egos within the team.

“Rijkaard has shown he dares to make radical choices when needed. The Dutch team must start again with a new staff and changes in the squad. Regarding the latter: it should be a mix of current internationals and younger talent. This process requires a lot of work to be performed by someone accustomed to this level, including some painful decisions. You must be looked up to as a coach and respected,” Cruyff said in interview given to the Voetbal International. Frank Rijkaard is the national team manager of Saudi Arabia, and has excellent international experience.

CRUYFF: IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED

Dutch legend Johan Cruyff has said that the national team should improve dramatically if they are looking to get a result against Germany. Netherlands suffered a shock defeat in the opening group game against Denmark.

The 1-0 loss meant that they now face a tough task ahead of them in order to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition. They have to realistically beat both Germany and Portugal in the last two group games in order to stand any chance of qualification. Johan Cruyff has said that the national team had a lot of problems in a match against Denmark, according to the Man Utd news.

If they repeat the same against Germany, then they will have no chance of getting a result according to Johan Cruyff. The former Barcelona playmaker has said that Netherlands did not properly use the attacking abilities of Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder. Cruyff reckons that the Dutch could have been much more clinical in front of goal had they have Wesley Sneijder on the ball more often than not. However, it was defensive midfielders Mark van Bommel and Nigel de Jong who had most of the possession in the match. Star striker Robin van Persie also wasted a number of chances to put his team in front.

“They have to improve rapidly. Oranje have to learn from their mistakes against Denmark. The profligacy in front of the goal wasn’t the biggest problem, though it would help if we had someone like Cristiano Ronaldo. What’s worrying is that Oranje struggled when it mattered most. Mark van Bommel and Nigel de Jong saw too much of the ball. That’s not their biggest quality. Other players should be the ones enjoying possession. The team was divided into two blocks, and that must change immediately,” said Johan Cruyff after the match. Germany won their opening match against Portugal, and are now on the brink of qualification.

CRUYFF NOT JOINING LIVERPOOL

Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff has said that he will not be joining Liverpool in the summer as the director of football. Speculation has been growing that Liverpool will be looking towards the former Barcelona legend in order to replace Damien Comolli, who has just been sacked as the director of football at Liverpool.

It was announced on the official website of Liverpool that sporting director Damien Comolli had left the club on mutual consent. Hence, the Frenchman has paid the price for a poor season by Liverpool, in which he made the majority of the signings.

Johan Cruyff is currently out of work having left the board of directors role at Ajax, which means that he is available to take over at a different club. Liverpool are now looking at the possibility of making Johan Cruyff their director of football. The Dutchman is widely regarded to be the reason for the philosophy behind Barcelona’s attacking stellar football, while he has also been a major influence over the way Ajax have played in the last two decades. However, the former Ajax and Barcelona superstar has now rejected claims that he could be on his way to Liverpool in the summer.

“I see my name is being mentioned in connection with Liverpool. I don’t know where that has come from because I have not heard anything from them. There has been no contact whatsoever. If you just read speculation like this, without any substance to it, there is no point taking it seriously. It is just talk,” Johan Cruyff said on his personal column on the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has come under enormous pressure this season for failing to get the results from a team, on which the club has spent more than £ 100 million in the summer.

CRUYFF CONSULTANCY IS WORKING

Mexican club Guadalajara continued their impressive form after the arrival of former Barcelona manager Johan Cruyff as a consultant recently. They recently secured their third consecutive win after the 2-1 win over Cruz Azul in the Mexican Clausura championship. Guadalajara made a terrible start to the season and were fighting against a poor run of results. However, the arrival of Johan Cruyff seems to have made a lot of difference, despite the fact that the former Barcelona manager has arrived in a consultant role. Guadalajara are still far away from winning the Championship, but it is the three consecutive wins that has pushed them into the mid-table.

Guadalajara will be hoping to continue this good run of form, which will become essential in order to attract young players. The arrival of Johan Cruyff is not only expected to make a significant difference in the style of play of the club, but also in the youth academy as well. Guadalajara scored two goals in the last few minutes of the match to come back from 1-0 to win the match 2-1. Emanuel Villa have scored for Cruz Azul earlier in the match, which looked to have provided them with a victory. However, the goal from Erick Torres levelled things, while a penalty from Hector Reynoso provided Guadalajara with the victory.

“That’s three rounds where we have played with heart and soul, we’re finding the results and the support of our fans. There’s still a long way to go in the tournament and we’re on our way back,” striker Marco Fabien de la Mora told reporters after the match. The club currently have 11 points from as many games in the league. They are currently nine points behind the leaders Morelia and Santos Laguna, but will be hoping that this form helps them close the gap.
