BARCELONA DEFENDER ON JUVENTUS RADAR – REPORT

Italian club Juventus areinterested in signing Barcelona defender Christian Lenglet during the transfer window this summer according to Spanish publication SPORT.Juventus are said to be one of two clubskeen on signing the French international alongside Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur. The Old Lady want to sign Lenglet on loan and it remains to be seen if Barcelona officials would be open to the move. Barcelona are yet to announce their free transfer signings as they need to make space on their wage bill for them or sell players.

Lenglet was a first-choice player at Barcelona when he signed from fellow Spanish team Sevilla, but he has seen his status drop over the course of the last two seasons. The French defender is now a squad player due to the advent of Uruguayan international Ronald Araujo to the first team and the return of Spanish international Eric Garcia to the club. He was the regular central defensive partner to veteran player Gerard Pique in his debut season at the Nou Camp. He’s now the fourth-choice centre back behind the trio of Garcia, Araujo and Pique.

Lenglet managed just over 1,000 minutes over 26 games in all competitions for Barcelona during the just concluded season. He’s surplus to requirements and Barcelona are keen to sell him, but Juventus want a loan move as they try to plug the gap left by the exit of club legend Giorgio Chiellini. The Italian international will leave Juventus after several years at the club. Reports have stated that the veteran defender is closing in on a free transfer move to the MLS (Major League Soccer). Los Angeles FC (LAFC) are said to be the MLS outfit keen to sign Chiellini as a free agent.

Apart from Lenglet, French-born Spanish international AymericLaporte of Manchester City is another defender on the radar of Juventus.
